Evaluations are the most frequently requested service in my practice. However, I also offer consultation and advocacy support for parents, and counseling for children and teens.
Consultation Services
A brief initial consultation is available at no cost for parents who are unsure of how to proceed in addressing their concerns. This is an opportunity for parents to get general information about what is available to them (within and outside of the public schools), and learn how to access those services or determine what other avenues they can explore to attain help for themselves or their child. I believe that maintaining an amicable relationship with schools is a very important part of advocacy, and that an informed parent is the best advocate for the child.
Multi-session consultation is available for parents who wish to develop specific behavior management skills and enhance their overall parenting. This approach is helpful if there are behavioral concerns that parents particularly want to address by developing specific strategies. Usually, this process involves a combination of office visits and phone or e-mail check-in, over the course of a few weeks.
Counseling Services
Counseling is available for children and teens who are experiencing difficulties with specific problems or who are struggling with an adjustment issue. This type of counseling is helpful in short-term problem-solving, such as developing healthier stress-management responses or changing a problematic behavior at home or at school.
